By tradition and constitutional decree, all Whoville high school seniors are required to take the grueling entrance exam to the Whoville Institute of Marble Studies (WIMS). The teachers at North Whoville High School (NWHS), designed a new program to help their seniors improve their chances of getting into the prestigious institute. The program involved a special class, from 6:00 - 7:30 am, Monday through Friday, as well as fitness training from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, on Mondays and Thursdays. Of the 420 NWHS seniors, 180 volunteered for the program, and the teachers randomly selected 80 of these students to participate in the program. Of the NWHS seniors: : • 35% of the program participants were accepted to WIMS. • 26% of those who volunteered, but were not selected for the program, were accepted to WIMS. • 15% of those who did not volunteer for the program were accepted to WIMS.
