one integer is 4 more than 3 times a second integer. their sum is 24. what are the two integers

Let the first integer = x

Let the second integer = y

x = 4 + 3y     (1)

x + y = 24     (2)   Subtract 3y from both sides of (1)

x - 3y = 4      (3)    Subtract (3)  from  (2)

4y = 20          Divide by  4

y = 20/4

y = 5

x + y = 24

x + 5 = 24

x = 24 - 5

x = 19

Answer

x = 19

y = 5
