It turns out that Magwitch, a convict, was the one who made a fortune and gave money to Pip. After this reveal Pip learns a lot about how Miss Havisham was not at all good, and Estella had been just playing with his heart. And Pip ends up considering helping the convict escape London out of gratitude, and caring for him afterwards.
