Abraham Lincoln's political standing towards slavery was at first to only stop the spread of slavery, and to retain slavery to where it was. However, with the Civil War, Lincoln was able to see his chance to be able to give the Emancipation Proclamation, which was the verdict to free slaves in the slave territories as well.
