Step one:
x: cost of one chair
y: cost of one table

Step 2:
2x+3y=230
5x+4y=400

Step 3:
Change both x’s to be the same, and subtract the formulas from one another:

10x+15y=1150
- 10x+8y =800

7y = 350
y = 50 ($50 per table)

Step 4:
Plug in Y to either formula
2x+3(50)=230
2x+150=230
2x=80
x=40 ($40 per chair)

ANSWER: $50 per table and $40 per table.
