minus 10 from both sides
x^2+6x-16=0
factor
what 2 numbers mulitply to get -16 and add to get 6?
8 and -2

(x+8)(x-2)=0

set each to zero

x+8=0
x=-8

x-2=0
x=2

x=2 and/or -8
