Why is getting a haircut so devastating for Ponyboy
1.) Even though they are poor, hair is the one thing that Greasers have.
2.) Cherry complimented him on his hair
it says in the book that their hair is the one thing that the greasers have that the socs can't take away from them. Their hair is the one thing that they have that can't be destroyed by anyone else and cutting it is unthinkable for them.
