An ant on a picnic table travels 300 cm eastward, then 34 cm northward, and finally 18cm westward. What is the magnitude of the ant's displacement relative to its original position?

a) 284 cm
b) 352 cm
c) 476 cm
d) 80,600 cm

Respuesta :

If I am understanding the problem statement correctly, then the East and west magnitude would be:

300 - 18 = 282 cm East

The North and South magnitude would be equal 34 cm. Giving us a right triangle with the sideĀ lengths given above. We use Pythagorean Theorem to calculate for the third side.

C^2 = 34^2 + 282^2 = 80680
C = 284.04 cm -------> OPTION A
