Carrie wanted to make pudding for dessert for her family. However, she couldn't find a recipe that would make 4 servings. She decided to use a recipe for eight servings and use only half as much of each ingreident. The recipe for eight called for 1 1/4 cups of raisins. How many cups of raisins will she need for 4 people?

The easiest way to solve this problem is to multiply first, then cut in half.
1.25 times 4 is 5.
5/2 is 2.5.

You could also do it the slightly more difficult way:
1.25/2 is .625.
.625 times 4 is 2.5.
