There are three causes of relaxed expiration-
the diaphragm's relaxation
tissue elasticity and recoil.
Surface tension
Expiration occurs passively during silent breathing while at rest, primarily as a result of the relaxed striated muscles of the inspiratory breathing system and elastic recoil of the lungs.
The elastic recoil of the lungs and surface tension create relaxed normal expiration, which is a passive action. The internal intercostals, intercostalis intimi, subcostals, and abdominal muscles are a few of the muscles that aid in forcing out air.
