All sides of a square are equal, so set the two equations equal to each other and solve.
5x - 8 = 3x + 14
2x - 8 = 14
2x = 22
x = 11

Form an inequality since it is a square
5x-8=3x+14
you then need to subtract 3x from both sides
2x-8=14
Add 8 to each side
2x=22
divide by 2
x=11
Hope this helped
