c. a monologue

Monologue is a long speech made by a character that other characters hear. It comes from the greek word "monos" which means single and legein  that means to speak. A monologue is presented by only one person and can either be comedic or dramatic depending on the type of the play presented. One of the most popular monologues ever recorded is found in  Shakespeare's "Hamlet". It started with the line "To be, or not to be - that is the question".
