how can you tell if a point is a solution or not on a graph

Take the x-axis and y-axis and locate the point on the graph. if it is exactly on the line it is a solution. Alternatively you could take the equation in the form of y=mx+b or ay+bx=c and replace the variables with the actual numbers and see if the equation makes sense
